Let’s start the bedwetting conversation

Bedwetting is surprisingly common among older children but parents are often afraid to talk about it due to a fear of judgement. Research has shown that almost half of all parents with children from 5 to 7 years old who wet the bed at night, feel helpless.

We think this needs to change, especially with Christmas on the horizon!

Let’s start the bedwetting conversation Thanks for the snaps Squaddies Natsai1, jzjen and Plonka 🤗

With overnight stays to visit family, late nights and disruption to the usual routines, Christmas is a time where bedwetting can become more of a concern than usual for parents and children.

Our starter kits are on their way and in the meantime, let’s begin a discussion around the experience of bedwetting because of bedwetting. Remember, this is a safe space and we’re here to support and encourage one another. If you’ve found anything that works for you and your child, share your tips and info in the comment section to see if the same thing could help other parents this festive season and beyond.

Why does bedwetting occur? 🤔

Bedwetting can be a challenging for children and parents alike and the reasons behind it are likely to vary from child to child. One thing that always remains the same though is that bedwetting is no one’s fault

There are many reasons for bedwetting, from a child’s bladder capacity to hold wee produced overnight, to psychological triggers like stress or a major life event. There are a few potential underlying health matters that can lead your little one to wet the bed, e.g. constipation1.

How to manage bedwetting

There are several solutions that exist to help you to manage bedwetting and make you and your child more confident. Consider trying some of these practical tips:

  • Get to know your child’s toilet habits – you may spot a pattern.
  • Make sure your child gets plenty of liquid during the day and if possible consider limiting large amounts of fluids before bed.
  • Remind your child to use the toilet 20 minutes before bed and again just before they lie down for sleep.
  • Constipation can be an underlying cause of bedwetting1, so ensure your child eats plenty of fibre as well as fresh fruit and vegetables.
  • Be supportive: Reassure your child and help them on the path to working through it. Don’t punish or blame them for bedwetting, try to stay positive and encouraging.

How to ensure your little one sleeps easy 💤

If your little one feels embarrassed about bedwetting, then Ninjamas Bedwetting Pyjama Pants may be just the thing to ease anxiety and ensure your child wakes feeling confident and well rested. Ninjamas keep skin (and bedding) dry and comfortable all night long. What’s more, the choice of cool designs and the Quietcloth material mean they don’t look, feel or sound like nappies. So, your kid can feel confident wearing them even when they stay away from home overnight .

Let your friends try Ninjamas too! 🐱‍👤

Thank you for the packs. They came today.
My 6 year old has never gone a night without being wet. She's currently being tested for a hormone issue as this runs in the family and if it's positive means she doesn't wake up as her body doesn't tell her to.
I tell her about her cousins and uncles that had issues so she knows it can happen but it's still taboo.

Love the design on the packs we received yesterday. Ninjamas are great for my 5 year old who still struggles with weeing at night, he sleeps all night as he's not disturbed by a wet bed

Our pack arrived yesterday! My little boy is 6 he's under the continence team on 4 tablets a day and still night time wetting! Feel so sorry for him as he just wants to be out off nappies! I do reassure him and tell him it doesn't matter but his 2 cousins who are 3 don't wear nappies and that bothers him! X

Haven’t received my pack just yet but looking forward to making a start. My being is quite self conscious about wearing nappies, much prefers to use something that’s a little more like normal knickers especially with the fun patterns and comfy design, so puts less pressure on her to be dry and get there in her own time. Will update once these arrive 😊

Thank you for the packs just the boost what my daughter needed, she is 6 years old. She really wants to be dry at night and gets very upset that she doesn't wake up to go, she was dry during the day at 2yrs and 4 mths but I think we have only ever had a handful of dry nights.

We received the packets yesterday and are excited to start this journey. Our girl is our first born so it’s a new journey for her and for us as parents. Keen to share our journey and learn from others too.

Recieved our bedtime pants today. Thank you!

My little one (5) wets most nights but is on his 8th dry day!!

Could be onto a breakthrough.. Have never put any pressure on him, have explained it’s completely normal, but he has been coming into our room in the morning very excited to be waking up dry. Have still been putting a night pant on him, until he is ready to go without. He loves the design of these pants 🚀

Thanks for the packs which we received today. We cannot wait to try them out and start handing out the vouchers! Little man has already said he thinks the print on the nappies is cool so off to a good start. He said he finds them comfy to wear too. Fingers crossed for a dry 1st night.

Thank you for the amazing two pack that we received today. Hopefully this will help my little one and my friends and family kids to keep the wet nights away. Can’t wait to try them, I am so grateful to be chosen to take part of this amazing project

Thank you for the packs, my 6 year old is happy to try them! He was dry day and night at almost 4 years old, then we got a dog and shortly afterwards we moved house, and he ended up back to wetting both day and night. I think there was too much change. We’ve sorted the daytime but he’s still bed wetting. We’ve used various brands of nappy pull-ups and they all seem to leak from time to time, which wakes him up and involves a full bed change in the middle of the night. We are hoping Ninjamas will prevent leaks while we wait for him to become dry at night. His big brother was almost 11 when he eventually stopped wetting, and we know he wasn’t lazy it’s just one of those things that’s different for everyone. They all get there in their own time.

I have a 7 year old who has always struggled at night. We’ve been under the incontinence team but didn’t want to medically intervene with him. He is such a deep sleeper he never wakes up to go to the toilet. It’s difficult knowing what the best thing to do for him. Really glad to know we aren’t alone!

hattie1986 • 05/12/2023 - 08:13

My 4 year old absolutely loves the design. We have tried to go cold turkey at night but have never been successful. We get him up to go to the bathroom throughout the night but the bed is still wet. I guess we’ll be in pull ups for the foreseeable future.
